NATURE ALWAYS WINS | WITHOUT CULTURE
Dit project is ontstaan vanuit mijn diepe bewondering voor de natuur en mijn fascinatie voor rauwe, grove en koude landschappen, natuur waarin je geen cultuur tegenkomt, natuur die je je leven kan kosten. In 2019 ben ik ten val gekomen in de bergen, het begin van een periode van extreme fysieke en mentale uitdagingen. De grote impact hiervan op mij als mens is de kern van Off to the moon. Het project komt voort uit Secret Mountain, an imaginary hike. Het is een vervolg op het project. Er zijn verbanden zowel inhoudelijk als in vorm waardoor de projecten soms in elkaar overlopen.
Tentoonstelling
In 2020 heb ik gewerkt aan een groot tentoonstellingsplan, dat ik in 2021 uitwerkte tot een tweedelige pilot. Het eerste deel, bestaande uit 30 kernwerken, was te zien tijdens Sommerfrische Kunst 2021 in Bad Gastein (Oostenrijk). Die kernwerken waren onder andere schilderijen, en prints die het midden houden tussen een foto en een schilderij. De maanbeelden vond ik in online fotoarchieven van onder meer NASA. Ik heb een serie collages gemaakt van foto’s van de oppervlakte van de maan. Ik ben met name geïnteresseerd in deze beelden omdat ze ook op aarde gemaakt hadden kunnen zijn.

Geluidsperformance
In 2021 ben ik onderzoek en gaan doen naar het effect van geluid en de combinatie ervan met mijn werk. Het tweede onderdeel van de pilot wordt een geluidsperformance, of sound bath. In mijn studio maak ik een opstelling van een aantal kernwerken, waarin de performance plaatsvindt. Mensen kunnen zich hiervoor vanaf januari 2022 inschrijven, individueel of als kleine groep. Een sound bath is een kalmerende geluidsbeleving die bedoeld is om helend te werken.
Deze twee pilots moeten leiden tot een grotere tentoonstelling die ik momenteel ontwikkel, een onderzoek naar het Antropoceen, met als werktitel Secret Mountain, off to the moon.
Het hele project, de twee pilots en de tentoonstelling, vormt een monument voor de natuur. We kunnen niet leven zonder gletsjers, zonder oceaan, zonder maan, zonder grond. Maar de aarde zal overleven zonder cultuur, zonder ons. Eerst moeten we treuren over het landschap dat aan het verdwijnen is door menselijke activiteit en cultuur. De gletsjers in mijn werk staan daar symbool voor. Zij vormden ons landschap, maar zijn ook de bewaarders van onze geschiedenis.

NATURE ALWAYS WINS | WITHOUT CULTURE
This project arose from my deep admiration for nature and my fascination for raw, rough and cold landscapes, nature in which you do not encounter culture, nature that can cost you your life. In 2019 I fell in the mountains, the beginning of a period of extreme physical and mental challenges. The great impact of this on me as a person is the core of Off to the moon. The project stems from Secret Mountain, an imaginary hike. It is a sequel to the project. There are connections, both in terms of content and form, so that the projects sometimes overlap.
Exhibition
In 2020 I worked on a major exhibition plan, which I developed into a two-part pilot in 2021. The first part, consisting of 30 core works, was shown during Sommerfrische Kunst 2021 in Bad Gastein (Austria). Those core works included paintings and prints that are somewhere between a photo and a painting. I found the moon images in online photo archives of, among others, NASA. I made a series of collages of photos of the surface of the moon. I am particularly interested in these images because they could also have been made on Earth.

sound performance
In 2021 I started researching the effect of sound and its combination with my work. The second part of the pilot will be a sound performance, or sound bath. In my studio I make an arrangement of a number of core works, in which the performance takes place. People can register for this from January 2022, individually or as a small group. A sound bath is a calming sound experience that is intended to have a healing effect.
These two pilots should lead to a larger exhibition that I am currently developing, an investigation into the Anthropocene, with the working title Secret Mountain, off to the moon.
The entire project, the two pilots and the exhibition, form a monument to nature. We cannot live without glaciers, without ocean, without moon, without soil. But the Earth will survive without culture, without us. First we have to mourn the landscape that is disappearing due to human activity and culture. The glaciers in my work symbolize this. They shaped our landscape, but they are also the keepers of our history.
