ICEBERG page 106 is ontstaan uit een gevonden foto van een ijsberg. De foto komt uit het boek De Planeet Aarde: Gletsjers, uitgegeven in 1983, mijn geboortejaar. In de beginjaren probeerde de ‘IJswacht’ de gevaarlijkste ijsbergen te markeren, maar dit bleek een onmogelijke opgave vanwege de voortdurend veranderende vormen van de ijsbergen. Tot halverwege de jaren zestig werd de markering met verf gedaan. Dit historische feit vormt de inspiratie voor het werk ICEBERG page 106. Het werk is gemaakt door middel van een schilderkunstige handeling met een fotografische afwerking.
De eerste 12 werken uit de serie ICEBERG page 106 zijn te zien in de tentoonstelling Glacial Fire. Glacial Fire is een groepsexpositie rond kunstenaars die een passie hebben voor gletsjerijs. De sterke band die elke individuele kunstenaar heeft met de natuur, en in dit geval met ijs, zal zichtbaar en voelbaar zijn in de expositie. De tentoonstelling wordt gecureerd door Esther Kokmeijer voor PARK in Tilburg. Deelnemende kunstenaars zijn: Robert van Keppel, Kevin Eason, Esther Kokmeijer en Margriet van Weenen.

ICE BERG page 106 (englisch)
ICE BERG page 106 originated from a found photograph of an iceberg. The photo comes from the book The Planet Earth: Glaciers, published in 1983, the year I was born. In the early years, the “Ice Patrol” attempted to mark the most dangerous icebergs, but this proved to be an impossible task due to the constantly changing shapes of the icebergs. Until the mid-1960s, these markings were done with paint. This historical fact serves as the inspiration for the artwork ICE BERG page 106. The piece was created through a painterly process with a photographic finish.
The first 12 works from the ICE BERG page 106 series will be exhibited in the show Glacial Fire. Glacial Fire is a group exhibition featuring artists who share a passion for glacier ice. The deep connection that each individual artist has with nature, and in this case with ice, will be both visible and palpable in the exhibition. The show is curated by Esther Kokmeijer for PARK in Tilburg. Participating artists include Robert van Keppel, Kevin Eason, Esther Kokmeijer, and Margriet van Weenen.
